The sensational and vivacious Koel Mullick is one of the most prominent actresses of tollywood industry today….This epitome of beauty, Koel Mullick is vying for the enthronement in the top position of the Bengali mainstream cinema. . The daughter of veteran actor Ranjit Mullick, has indeed come a long way. She was an introvert and wanted to be a psychiatrist. But destiny willed otherwise. She faced the media spotlight at a very young age of 19 years while she was was studying in Gokhale Memorial college with psychology as her subject.She made her debut in Haranath Chakraborty’s 'Nater Guru' opposite Jeet.The film portrays Koel as a 23-year-old girl called Monisha. Nater Guru was a major hit at the box office. The film released in 2003 and opened the doors to a glorious tenure for Mullick in the tollywood film industry .….Consequently, offers came flooding in from various directors and 2004 saw her she starring in Debipaksha, Shudhu Tumi, Badshah and Bandhan. While the first two swan-dived on the big screen, Badshah and Bandhan more than made up, with the latter going on to become a major commercial success. In 2005, Koel displays her verasatlity in Shubha Drishti, Manik, Juddha and Chorey Chorey Mastuto Bhai. It was Juddha, in which she held her own against veterans Mithun Chakraborty, Debasree Roy and Jeet, that had Tollywood junkies lining up for a look. The film recorded an unprecedented initial collection of Rs 1.2 crore in the first week itself. In a short span of three years, She has become one of the most visible pretty faces in the Bengali film industry.Today she is reigning the industry with a never-ending list of hits like - Shikar, Hero, Ghatak, Nabab Nandini, Premer Kahini, Love, Mon Mane Na, Jackpot, Hitlist, Saath Paake Badha, Bolo na Tumi Amar . Among them Hero, Mon Mane Na, Nabab Nandini and Balo na Tumi Amar were major commerial successes. Hero and Mon Mane na got a great box office response...... Simultaneouly she received some offers from bollywood too which were turned down by her for different reasons.. Her first bollywood offer was from the director Anurag Basu for the movie “Gangster”, but she refused it for certain reason. Another movie, named “Family" directed by Raj Kumar Santoshi, and casted by big names of bollywood like Amitabh Bacchan, Akshay Kumar… was also rejected by her due to a clash with another bengali movie shooting. However, she will finally make her first bollywood appearance in a Vikram Bhatt banner movie "Apna Sa" whose 50% of the shooting is already over . She is an ardent admirer of Uttam Kumar, Suchitra Sen, Aparna Sen, Laboni Sarkar, Indrani Halder and Rituparna Sengupta.
She has not only limited her versatality to the silver screen but has also invaded the small screen. She is anchoring the reality show named “kotha O Kahini” under the banner of Grassroot Entertainment Private Ltd.
